Dusty Attic July Moodboard - Summer

A beautiful bright mood board that celebrates the glorious bright red tones. I had a wonderful picture of my granddaughter skipping down a cobbled lane with a bright red balloon. This picture was made for this mood board.

To add a hint of summer, I stamped randomly different summer insects around the page and added key words. The background was created by using Lindy Stamp Gang Magicals and sprays in Whale Watch Blue. Over the top I stencilled a random diamond pattern that absorbed the colours. I painted chipboard with Finnabair Deep Water metallique paint and added a grunge look by using Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks and dried. I selected a variety of flowers which were coloured with blues and reds at adhered to the photo. Once all of the flowers have been added, use small Dusty Attic paisley chipboard and add to the flowers. Use white gesso and blues to flick over the page to add a grungey look. Also dabbed on the flowers to blend in with overall look.

I hope you enjoy and remember to leave a comment for me.

Dusty Attic June Project

I have gone totally grungy with this colour theme of the June mood board. I am currently being inspired by the recent holiday pictures that I took overseas of the ancient and historical sights. For this layout I started with a dark patterned paper and stencilled a grungy pattern with Finnabair Graphite texture. To add more colour, I sprayed Lindy Stamp Gang Silver range (including ones that had a brown tinge). I laid a gesso painted net on the patterned paper as a base. Tip: the netting was a dark green colour so I spread heavy white gesso on the work top and wearing a set of gloves rolled the net through it to get an even cover.
Layering a range of Dusty Attic chipboard which have been painted with golds (with a pink tinge), browns, blacks and coppers and beige's. I added different metallics in the paints so that they weren't flat but had depth to the colours. I chose colours that had a general colour theme reflective of the mood board but added a slight pink overtone to some of the pieces. Tip: when gluing down the chipboard, use small pieces of chip board off cuts to build up the pieces so that they sit evenly across the different levels.

To add depth to the page, I used Lindy Stamp Gang Magicals (Bodalicious Blush) and painted the wings. Finally I used a variety of paints and flicked over the page ending with micro art stones to added texture.

I hope you enjoy.

More Than Words - June Challenge - Journey & Map

Word Inspiration - JOURNEY

My inspiration was this photo of my husband Mark standing in the entrance of an ancient church in a village called Shere. We were on holidays early this year and the photo represented the journey that we have been on since our very first journey to England together many years ago. I have used a button with a map as my reference to a map as well as the words on the photo mat.

What does the word JOURNEY inspire you to create? You can choose to use the word somewhere on your project or simply be inspired by it. Since words are an integral part of our challenges, we want to know how this month's word stimulated your creative process, so please do explain in your blog post how it inspired you!

For this month’s creative challenge, we want you to use a MAP to get creative and go exploring! We want to see something from a map on your layout, canvas or art journal page. You may decide to add components like land outlines, roads, a compass, arrows, a legend or even a globe. You may want to tuck a piece of the map itself in between your paper layers or make your entire background a map. Let the map be your guide and inspiration on your creative journey!

Dusty Attic Jine 2018 Moodboard

A beautiful rich mood board with gorgeous greys, silvers and elegance. I thought that I would do something different and turn the colours into a travel page that suited the colour of the scenery. These are pictures of Port Issac's in Cornwall that my husband and I visited early this year when we were in England to visit family. I have put in some instructions thorughout the close ups. I hope you enjoy and please follow the link to the Dusty Attic June Challenge and remember to put a comment at the bottom of this post. I love hearing your feedback.

I started by clear gessoing the pattern paper and adding a little bit of white gesso to off set the brightness of the pattern. Once dry I used a molding paste to add a stencilled texture. To start adding colour, I used Lindy Stamp Gang sprays in a variety of greys and silvers and allowed the colour to run making a pattern around the texture.

I painted the lace border  with Dusty Attic Storm and used Tim Holtz Distress Oxide - Hickory Smoke to add a distressed look. Once dry I adhered to the back ground under the photo maps. I used smaller photos as I wanted a page that had a lot of negative space. Tip: when adding your photo mats, glue 3 pieces of discarded small chipboard underneath and adhere to the centre of the photo mat. This will allow you to slip the chipboard etc. underneath the photo mats as you add the pieces.

I cut a strip of cotton lace and using the Tim Holtz Distress Oxide (same colour as before) coloured the lace, spraying with water to blend. Dry and adhere along the top of the lace chipboard. Once dry, glue a variety of art stones to create a pebbled look and allow glue to dry. Sprinkle with Lindy Stamp Gang Magical - Sandra Dee Sepia and spray lightly with water. Hold page to to allow for it to run.

Paint the filmstrip with Colour Blast Shimmer Pot - Leather and cut up so that the pieces fit under the photo mats and lace and art stones. Tip: add some more art stones where the filmstrip pieces need to be blended in to the embellishments.

Paint the words in Dusty Attic Storm Cloud and Soot, adding some Lindy Stamp Gang Magicals watered down and using a paint brush, dad onto the words to add a distressed look. I have used Gag me a Spoon Gray powdered magical and spray. To finish off, I added a bit more colour under and around the stencilled texture. Using the Lindy stamp Gang Magical powder Gag me a sppon Gray, added a slight salmon pink colour that added a bit of colour to offset the grays and browns of the page. I have flicked watered down Prima - Finnabair Metaliique paints - Silver spoon to add a final textured look. Tip: remember to cover your photos if you have them already on the page with a spare piece of paper.
